How to Get From Vancouver to Squamish (and Back) - Transportation Options

Are you looking to for transportation options for the scenic 58 km (36 miles) from wild and rugged Squamish to Whistler and its sexy slopes?

Here are the hostel's recommended ways to get from Squamish to Whistler (and back), with a few options dropping off and picking up right from our front door.

Pop-a-Ride

Poparide (previously named HitchPlanet) is a Vancouver-based Uber-like service that connects you with people who are making the drive and have an extra seat. It is an excellent, inexpensive, fast, and convenient option to get from Squamish to Whistler and back.

The only question is whether you'll be lucky enough to find a driver who's got a seat available for the time your looking for. Typically you'll find a few rides available every day, and the number is increasing as Pop Rideshare continues to grow in popularity.

Rides typically cost $7 dollars each way and the drivers are often flexible on pickup and drop-off locations.

Hitchhiking

It's free!

Hitchhiking from Squamish to Whistler and back is common and in both cities there are traffic lights along the highway which slow down traffic and increase your odds of hitching a ride.

Unless there is a sign posted indicating otherwise, as long as there is a wide shoulder on the highway, hitchhiking is legal in BC.

We recommend walking a few meters past the hostel turn off, in front of the Squamish Adventure Inn, if you're looking to hitchhike to Whistler from Squamish.

YVR SKYLYNX

The YVR Skylynx shuttle runs from Vancouver International Airport, through the City, through Squamish and on to Whistler. Round trips cost somewhere in the vicinity of $42. Check out their website for up to date schedules and booking as they change seasonally. https://yvrskylynx.com/
